Broadway Pizza San Diego CA
The Samuel Fox Lofts development, which occupies the corner of 6th and Broadway (531 Broadway) at the edge of the Gaslamp, has an influx of new food headed to the historic, 1920s-era building, including another outpost of Ramen Yamadaya.
Also on the way is BIGA, which will occupy more than 3, 700-square-feet of the ground floor retail space for a new Italian concept that will use a true wood-fired pizza oven to cook up the majority of the menu. CBRE's Jim Rinehart, who signed the restaurant, says that "BIGA has been searching for real estate sites downtown and fell in love with the Samuel Fox property because of the history and charm of its architecture. There are challenges in repositioning older buildings to accommodate the modern restaurant demands, but they're excited to showcase their design and quality of pizza to the downtown community."
Owner Tae Dickey, a Culinary Institute of America alum who's worked in the food industry since his teens, has a well-cultivated passion for Napoletana-style pizza. BIGA's traditional pies will be made with locally sourced ingredients and comprise about half the menu; the remainder will comprised of a variety of authentic Northern Italian dishes.
Due at the end of August, BIGA plans to serve beer and wine and include a classic Italian coffee component fueled by beans from a local roaster.
